How to Fix File Permissions with the StackCP File Permissions Checker

Wrong file permissions are a common cause of 403 Forbidden errors, broken uploads and, in the worst case, security holes. StackCP includes a File Permissions Checker that compares every file and folder on your site against the recommended settings and lets you correct any that differ.

Run a permissions scan

1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at app.fimurohost.com.
2. Go to Services and select your hosting plan.
3. Click Login to Control Panel / StackCP. StackCP opens for that website.
4. Click the File Permissions Checker icon.
5. Click Scan Permissions and wait for the scan to finish.
6. Review the list. For each item the tool shows the current permission and the recommended one.

Fix the problems it finds

You have two options:

• Several files at once: tick the files you want to correct and click Fix Selected.
• One file at a time: click Fix Permission next to a single entry.

Run the scan again afterwards to confirm the list is empty.

Tips

• As a general rule, files are usually 644 and folders 755. Avoid 777: it lets anyone on the server write to the file.
• If a plugin or script tells you to set 777 to make an upload work, run the checker first; the real cause is usually a different permission issue.
• Run a scan after restoring a backup or uploading a site from another host, because permissions are often changed in transit.
