A subdomain is an address like blog.yourdomain.com or shop.yourdomain.com. It can host a completely separate site or a section of your main one. You can create subdomains yourself in StackCP.
Create the subdomain
- Log in to your FimuroHost client area at app.fimurohost.com.
- Go to Services and select your hosting plan.
- Click Login to Control Panel / StackCP. StackCP opens for that website.
- Open the Subdomains tool.
- Type the name you want in the Subdomain field, for example
blog. - Optionally change the Document Root (see below).
- Click Create Subdomain.
What the document root does
The document root is the folder the subdomain serves its files from. For example, if you have a folder public_html/support, enter public_html/support as the document root and support.yourdomain.com will show the contents of that folder.
Changes to a document root can take around 15 minutes to apply, so give it a little time before testing.
Common problems
- Subdomain does not load: if your domain uses our nameservers (
ns1.stackdns.com,ns2.stackdns.com) the DNS record is created for you. If your DNS is managed elsewhere, add an A record for the subdomain pointing to your hosting IP address. - Browser shows a security warning: wait for the free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate to be issued for the new subdomain, which requires the DNS to resolve first.
- Shows the main site instead: check the document root path and wait the full 15 minutes.
