Turn on cPanel spam filtering, send spam to a separate folder, auto-delete obvious junk, adjust the spam score and add senders to the allow or block lists.

cPanel includes Apache SpamAssassin, which checks every incoming message and gives it a spam score. The higher the score, the more likely the message is junk. With the Spam Filters tool you decide what happens to mail above a certain score: mark it, move it to a separate folder, or delete it.

Turn on spam filtering

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com.
  2. Go to Services and select your cPanel Hosting plan.
  3. Click Login to cPanel. cPanel opens in a new tab, already signed in.
  4. In the Email section, click Spam Filters.
  5. Turn on Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam. Messages above the spam threshold now get a spam marker in their subject and headers.
  6. Turn on Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box). Spam is then delivered to a folder called spam in each mailbox instead of the Inbox.

These settings apply to all email accounts in your cPanel account.

Choosing the spam threshold score

Under Spam Threshold Score you choose how strict the filter is. A lower number is stricter:

ScoreEffect
1–3Very aggressive. Catches most spam but also some real mail.
5A balanced, commonly used setting. Start here.
8–10Relaxed. Only very obvious spam is caught.

If real messages land in the spam folder, raise the score by one. If too much spam gets through, lower it by one. Change in small steps and watch for a few days.

Automatically delete obvious spam (optional)

Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete) deletes messages above a separate, higher score before they reach any mailbox. Deleted messages cannot be recovered, so only enable it with a high threshold (for example 10 or more) and after the Spam Box has worked well for a while.

Allow and block specific senders

Open Additional Configurations (For Advanced Users):

  • Whitelist (Emails Always Allowed): add senders whose mail must never be marked as spam, such as your bank, clients or your website’s contact form. Enter a full address like [email protected] or a whole domain with a wildcard like *@example.com.
  • Blacklist (Emails Never Allowed): add senders that should always be treated as spam.

Click Update (or Save) after editing each list. Newer cPanel versions may call these the allow list and block list.

Emptying the spam folder

Spam in the Spam Box still uses disk space. Check the folder occasionally in webmail for false positives, then empty it. On the Spam Filters page there is also an option to empty the Spam Box for all accounts at once.

If you use POP3 on a computer, your mail app will not see the spam folder. Check it in webmail instead.

More ways to reduce spam

  • Avoid a catch-all default address. Set Email » Default Address to reject unknown addresses.
  • Do not publish plain email addresses on your website; use a contact form.
  • Use Email Filters to delete messages with specific words or from specific senders.
  • Mark spam as junk in your mail app so your own inbox learns too.

Common problems

  • Important mail in the spam folder: add the sender to the whitelist and raise the threshold slightly.
  • Spam folder not visible in the mail app: in the app’s folder list, subscribe to the spam folder, or use IMAP instead of POP3.
  • Your own outgoing mail goes to spam elsewhere: that is a different problem; see our Email Deliverability guide.
