How to Check Disk Space, Bandwidth and Resource Usage in cPanel

See how much disk space, bandwidth and server resources your site uses in cPanel, find the folders using the most space, and fix full-quota and resource-limit errors.

Every cPanel Hosting plan has limits: how much disk space your files, emails and databases can use, how much data can be transferred, and on many servers how much CPU and memory your sites may use at once. When you reach a limit, uploads fail, email bounces or visitors see errors. cPanel shows all of this clearly, so it is worth a quick look every month.

The exact limits of your plan are shown inside cPanel and on your plan details; this guide explains where to look and what to do when you are close.

1. The Statistics panel

On the cPanel home page, the Statistics panel on the right lists your usage as used / limit. Important lines:

ItemWhat it counts
Disk UsageEverything in your home directory: website files, emails, backups you created, logs
Database Disk UsageThe size of your MySQL/MariaDB databases (also counted in total disk usage)
BandwidthData transferred this month by your websites, email and FTP
Email Accounts, Databases, Addon Domains, SubdomainsHow many you have created compared with your plan’s allowance

2. Find what is using your disk space

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com.
  2. Go to Services and select your cPanel Hosting plan.
  3. Click Login to cPanel. cPanel opens in a new tab, already signed in.
  4. In the Files section, click Disk Usage.
  5. The top table lists your main folders with their sizes. The biggest usually are public_html (website files), mail (all email), and any old backup files in your home directory.
  6. Use the folder tree lower on the page to expand a folder and see which subfolders are largest.

For email, go to Email » Email Accounts. The Storage: Used / Allocated column shows each mailbox’s size, so you can spot the mailbox that needs cleaning.

Common space wasters

  • Old full backup files (backup-*.tar.gz) left in your home directory after downloading them.
  • Large error_log files created by a site that repeats the same error thousands of times.
  • Cache folders created by plugins, such as wp-content/cache.
  • Mailboxes full of old attachments, and the Trash and Spam folders.
  • Old copies of the site such as public_html_old or site.zip.

Delete files with File Manager (remember to empty its Trash), and delete emails in webmail or your mail app, then empty the Trash folder there too. Disk figures can take a little while to refresh after you delete things.

3. Bandwidth and visitor figures

In the Metrics section, Bandwidth shows data transfer by day and month, split into web, email and FTP traffic. Visitors and Awstats show which pages, files and robots use the most. A sudden jump often means an aggressive bot or someone embedding your images on their site (see Hotlink Protection).

4. Resource Usage (CPU and memory)

If your server provides it, you will see Resource Usage in the Metrics section. It shows how close your account comes to its CPU, memory, input/output and process limits, with graphs for the last hours and days. When a limit is reached the system records a fault, and visitors may see slow pages or errors such as 508 Resource Limit Is Reached or 503 Service Unavailable.

If you do not see Resource Usage, your server does not include this tool; open a ticket and we can check your usage for you.

Reducing resource use

  • Use a caching plugin (for WordPress) so pages are not rebuilt for every visitor.
  • Remove plugins you do not use, especially ones that run heavy background tasks.
  • Block abusive bots with IP Blocker or rules in .htaccess.
  • Replace the WordPress built-in scheduler with a real cron job that runs every 15 minutes.
  • Optimise large images before uploading them.

When you really need more

If your site has simply grown, ask us about moving to a larger plan. Open a ticket in the Sales department and include your current usage figures.
