Your cPanel password protects everything in your hosting account, and your cPanel contact email is where the server sends warnings, such as a nearly full disk or a login from a new location. Both take a minute to update and are worth checking as soon as your account is set up.

Remember that your cPanel password is separate from your FimuroHost client area password. Changing one does not change the other.

Change your cPanel password

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com.
  2. Go to Services and select your cPanel Hosting plan.
  3. Click Login to cPanel. cPanel opens in a new tab, already signed in.
  4. In the Preferences section, click Password & Security (you can also reach it from the user menu at the top right).
  5. Enter your current password in Old Password. If you signed in through the client area and do not know the old password, open a ticket and we can reset it for you.
  6. Type the new password in New Password and again in New Password (Again), or click Password Generator to create a strong one. Save it in a password manager before continuing.
  7. Watch the Strength meter. The server may refuse passwords below a minimum strength, so aim for the green zone.
  8. Click Change your password now!

What else uses this password

The cPanel password is also the password for your main account in FTP/SFTP, SSH (if enabled) and the direct cPanel login page. After changing it, update any saved connection in FileZilla or other tools. Email accounts, extra FTP accounts and database users have their own passwords and are not affected.

A good password

  • At least 12–16 characters, mixing upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols.
  • Not used on any other website.
  • Not based on your domain, company name, phone number or date of birth.

Set your contact email and notifications

  1. In cPanel, go to Preferences » Contact Information.
  2. Enter an address in Email Address. Use a mailbox that is not hosted on this same account (for example a Gmail or Outlook.com address), so you still receive alerts if your hosting mail has a problem.
  3. Optionally add a Second Email Address.
  4. Review the notification checkboxes. We suggest keeping alerts for disk quota warnings, bandwidth usage, email quota, SSL certificate problems, password or contact changes and logins to your account.
  5. Click Save.

Keep your client area details up to date too

The contact address inside cPanel is only used by the server. Invoices, renewal reminders and support replies go to the email address on your FimuroHost client area profile. To change that, log in to the client area, open the account menu and choose Your Profile. To change the client area password, use Change Password in the same menu.

Common problems

  • “The password you entered is too weak”: add length and symbols, or use the Password Generator.
  • “The old password is incorrect”: if you normally use single sign-on you may never have set one. Ask support to reset it.
  • Not receiving cPanel notices: check the spam folder of your contact address and confirm the address has no typing mistakes.
