How to Connect to Your Website with FTP (FileZilla)

FTP lets you move files between your computer and your website: uploading a theme, downloading a backup, or editing a configuration file. This guide walks you through connecting to your FimuroHost Cloud Hosting space with FileZilla, a free client for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Any other FTP client (WinSCP, Cyberduck, Transmit) works the same way. You only need the three details StackCP gives you.

Before you start

• Install an FTP client. We suggest FileZilla Client. Download it from the official site only.
• Know which website (hosting plan) you want to connect to.
• For security, FTP on FimuroHost Cloud Hosting is locked by default. You will unlock it in step 2.

Step 1: Open StackCP

1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at app.fimurohost.com.
2. Go to Services and select your Cloud Hosting plan.
3. Click Login to Control Panel / StackCP. StackCP opens for that website, already signed in.

Step 2: Unlock FTP

1. On the management page for your site, find the FTP panel on the right-hand side.
2. Choose how to unlock it:
   • By time: FTP stays open to everyone who has your login for the period you choose, then locks again automatically.
   • By IP address: FTP is opened only for a specific IP address, such as your office connection.
3. StackCP shows when the unlock expires. You can lock FTP again early at any time.

Step 3: Copy your FTP details

In the FTP Details section of the same page you will find:

• FTP Server (Host)
• Username
• Password (the main FTP account is the only password StackCP displays in plain text)

Step 4: Connect with FileZilla

1. Open FileZilla.
2. In the Quickconnect bar at the top, paste the Host, Username and Password. Leave Port empty to use the default.
3. Click Quickconnect.
4. When the connection succeeds, your website files appear in the right-hand pane. Your main site lives in public_html.

Tip: to avoid typing details each time, use File > Site Manager, create a new site, and keep Encryption set to "Use explicit FTP over TLS if available".

Tips

• Prefer an encrypted connection. Plain FTP sends your password unencrypted. If you are comfortable with SSH, you can transfer files over SFTP instead using your SSH login (see our SSH guides).
• Large files: single FTP transfers are currently limited to 5 GB. For anything bigger, use SFTP over SSH.
• Lock FTP when you finish if you unlocked it for a long period.
• Domain not pointed yet? Use the host shown in FTP Details (for example ftp.stackcp.com) rather than ftp.yourdomain.com.

Common problems

• Connection times out: FTP is probably still locked, or your IP address changed since you unlocked by IP.
• "530 Login authentication failed": check that you copied the username and password exactly, with no spaces.
• Host not found: your domain's DNS may not point to FimuroHost yet. Use the StackCP host name instead.
