How to Change PHP Settings in StackCP and .user.ini

Need a bigger upload limit, more memory for a plugin, or a longer script timeout? On FimuroHost Cloud Hosting you can change most PHP settings for your own website. There are two ways to do it.

Option 1: StackCP's PHP Configuration page (easiest)

1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area, open Services and select your hosting plan.
2. Click Login to Control Panel / StackCP. StackCP opens with the tools for that website (single sign-on, so there is no second password to type).
3. Click PHP Configuration.
4. Type new values into the fields, or pick an option, for the settings you want to change.
5. Save your changes.

This page covers the settings people change most often. For anything else, use a .user.ini file.

Option 2: a .user.ini file (advanced)

PHP reads a file called .user.ini in your website's root folder alongside its main configuration, so you can set almost any PHP directive there.

1. In StackCP, open File Manager (or connect over SFTP).
2. Go to public_html and open .user.ini, or create it if it doesn't exist. The full path is ~/public_html/.user.ini.
3. Add one directive per line, then save. For example:

max_input_time = 500
memory_limit = 256M
upload_max_filesize = 64M
post_max_size = 64M

                        
                    

These are example values only. The platform may cap some settings, so if a value doesn't take effect, ask support what the current maximum is.

Wait a few minutes

PHP only re-reads custom configuration every 5 minutes, so a change can take a little while to show up on your site. This is especially noticeable on WordPress-optimised packages, where PHP-FPM caches configuration aggressively. Don't keep changing values while you wait.

Check that it worked

1. Create a file called info.php in public_html containing:

2. Visit https://yourdomain.com/info.php and search the page for the setting you changed. The Local Value column shows what your site is using.
3. Delete info.php when you're done. It reveals details about your server that attackers would love to see.

Common problems

• Nothing changed: wait the full 5 minutes, check you edited the .user.ini in the right site's public_html, and check for typos in the directive name.
• php_value lines in .htaccess: PHP here runs under PHP-FPM, so php_value / php_flag lines in .htaccess won't apply your settings and may cause a 500 error. Move them into .user.ini using the name = value format.
• Uploads still limited: post_max_size must be at least as large as upload_max_filesize.
