Using AVIF Images on FimuroHost Cloud Hosting

AVIF is a modern image format that is often much smaller than JPEG or PNG at the same quality. At the moment, FimuroHost Cloud Hosting does not convert your images to AVIF automatically. You can still serve AVIF files that you create yourself or with a plugin.

Option 1: Use an image optimisation plugin (WordPress)

The easiest route is a plugin such as ShortPixel. It creates the AVIF versions of your images and normally adds the server configuration needed to deliver them, so there is nothing else to set up.

Option 2: Add the file type to .htaccess yourself

If you generate AVIF files some other way, make sure the server sends them with the correct content type:

1. Open the File Manager in StackCP, or connect with an FTP client.
2. Open (or create) the .htaccess file in your public_html folder.
3. Add this line and save the file:

   AddType image/avif .avif
   
                           
                       

Tips

• Keep a JPEG or WebP fallback. Use the HTML <picture> element so older browsers still get an image.
• WebP is a good middle ground if you want small files with near-universal browser support.
• Platform features change over time. If you want to know whether built-in AVIF conversion is available yet, just ask support.
