Transferring a domain moves its management from your current registrar to FimuroHost, so your domain, hosting and billing are in one place. The domain stays yours, and done properly your website and email keep working throughout. A transfer usually completes within 5–7 days.
Work through the checklist below before you order; most failed transfers come from skipping one of these steps.
Before you start: the checklist
- The domain is at least 60 days old. ICANN rules block transfers within 60 days of registration or of a previous transfer. Check the created date with a lookup at lookup.icann.org. See The 60-Day Transfer Lock Explained.
- No recent owner change. If the registrant name, organisation or email changed in the last 60 days, a Change of Registrant lock may apply.
- The domain is active, not in redemption. A domain in
redemptionPeriodmust be restored at the current registrar first. If it expires soon, transfer at least a couple of weeks before the expiry date, or renew it first. - Unlock it. At your current registrar, turn off the registrar lock (sometimes called transfer lock or domain lock). A lookup should no longer show
clientTransferProhibited. - Get the EPP code (also called auth code, authorisation code or transfer code) from your current registrar. They must provide it within five calendar days of your request.
- Check the registrant email address. Make sure the domain's contact email is one you can access. Some registrars send a transfer confirmation or notice there.
- Plan your DNS. If your DNS is hosted by your current registrar (their free DNS), it may stop working once the domain leaves them. Point the domain to your hosting's nameservers, for example
ns1.stackdns.comandns2.stackdns.comfor FimuroHost Cloud hosting, before starting the transfer, and wait for that change to take effect.
Order the transfer
- Go to fimurohost.com/domain/transfer and enter your domain name.
- Enter the EPP code. Copy and paste it; codes are case-sensitive and often contain symbols. Remove any spaces before or after it.
- Check the nameservers on the configuration step. To avoid any interruption, keep the nameservers your domain uses now (or the FimuroHost ones if you have already pointed it to us).
- Add WHOIS privacy if offered for your extension.
- Check out, confirm your contact details, and pay the invoice.
What it costs
For most generic extensions (.com, .net, .org, .xyz and so on), a transfer includes a one-year renewal. The extra year is added to your current expiry date, so you do not lose the time you already paid for. Some country-code extensions (such as .io or .me) have their own rules and may not add a year. Transfer prices are on the pricing page.
What happens next
- We submit the transfer request to the registry after payment. The domain shows as Pending Transfer in Domains → My Domains.
- Your old registrar may email the registrant to confirm or reject the transfer. Approve it if you can, as this speeds things up. If nobody responds, the transfer is normally approved automatically after five days.
- The transfer completes, usually within 5–7 days. The status changes to Active and the new expiry date appears.
During the transfer
- Your website and email keep working as long as the nameservers stay the same.
- Do not change nameservers or contact details while the transfer is pending; many registrars block changes during a transfer, and a contact change can cancel it.
After the transfer
- Check the domain's Nameservers and Contact Information in the client area.
- Turn the Registrar Lock back on.
- Look out for a contact verification email and click the link within 15 days. See Verify Your Domain Contact Email.
- Confirm auto-renew is on.
- The domain cannot be transferred to another registrar again for 60 days.
If the transfer seems stuck, see Domain Transfer Stuck or Failed?. A .bd domain cannot be transferred to FimuroHost; see Using a .bd Domain with FimuroHost Hosting.
