Temporary Preview URLs: What They Are and How to Use Them

When you create a hosting package, it gets a temporary preview address ending in stackstaging.com. It lets you view the files on your hosting even when your domain is not pointing to FimuroHost yet. You can find it in StackCP for your site.

What you can use it for

Building a site before the domain is live

If the package was set up before the domain's DNS points to us, the preview address lets you see your site as if it were already live.

Checking a migration before switching

The safest way to move a site to FimuroHost is:

1. Copy the files, emails and databases to your new hosting (or ask us for a free migration).
2. Check everything works on the preview address.
3. Only then change your nameservers to ns1.stackdns.com and ns2.stackdns.com.

Showing a client

Share the preview address with a client so they can review a new site before launch, without it appearing on the real domain.

Limitations to know about

• No SSL: the preview address does not support HTTPS. Open it with http:// and temporarily disable any rule that forces HTTPS, or the page will fail to load.
• Not for speed tests: preview traffic runs on reduced-capacity servers and skips the edge cache, so it is slower and shows compression as off. Test speed on your real domain.
• Not a staging site: the preview address shows the same files as your live site. Changes you make appear on both, and there is nothing to push live.

Tips

• WordPress stores its own address in the database and may redirect you to the real domain. Editing your computer's hosts file is often easier for testing WordPress.
• Do not give out the preview address as your permanent website address.
