DNS records tell the internet where to find your website, where to deliver your email and which services you use. When your domain uses the nameservers from your FimuroHost welcome email, you manage all these records in cPanel’s Zone Editor. If your domain uses another DNS provider (such as Cloudflare), changes in Zone Editor have no effect; make them at that provider instead.

Open Zone Editor

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com.
  2. Go to Services and select your cPanel Hosting plan.
  3. Click Login to cPanel. cPanel opens in a new tab, already signed in.
  4. In the Domains section, click Zone Editor.
  5. Next to your domain you will see quick buttons (+ A Record, + CNAME Record, + MX Record) and Manage. Click Manage to see and edit every record.

Record types you will use

TypeWhat it doesExample
APoints a name to an IPv4 addressshop.yourdomain.com » 203.0.113.10
AAAAPoints a name to an IPv6 addressOnly if a service gives you an IPv6 address
CNAMEMakes a name an alias of another namewww.yourdomain.com » yourdomain.com
MXWhere email for the domain is delivered, with a priority (lower = preferred)Priority 0, destination mail.yourdomain.com
TXTText for verification and email security (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)google-site-verification=abc123…
SRVLocates services such as Microsoft Teams or VoIPPriority, weight, port and target from the provider
CAAWhich certificate authorities may issue SSL for your domainLeave alone unless you know you need it

Add a record

  1. On the Manage page, click + Add Record (or the arrow next to it to pick a type).
  2. Name: type the subdomain part, for example shop; cPanel completes it to shop.yourdomain.com. For the domain itself, use the full domain name.
  3. TTL: how long other servers cache the record, in seconds. The default (often 14400 = 4 hours) is fine; lower it to 300 a day before a planned change so it takes effect faster.
  4. Type: choose the record type.
  5. Record: the value (IP address, target name, or text). For MX records enter a Priority and Destination.
  6. Click Save Record.

To change a record click Edit, update it and click Save Record. To remove one click Delete and confirm.

Examples

Point a subdomain to another server

Add an A record: Name app, Record: the other server’s IP. (If the subdomain is hosted on this cPanel account, create it in Domains instead; cPanel adds the DNS automatically.)

Verify your domain with Google, Facebook or Microsoft

Add a TXT record for the domain itself with the exact verification text the service gives you. Existing TXT records (such as SPF) can stay; a domain can have many TXT records.

Use Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 for email

  1. Delete the existing MX record(s) that point to mail.yourdomain.com.
  2. Add the MX records your email provider gives you (for Google Workspace today that is a single record: priority 1, destination smtp.google.com).
  3. Add the provider’s SPF include to your existing SPF TXT record rather than creating a second one.
  4. In cPanel, go to Email » Email Routing (if shown) for that domain and set it to Remote Mail Exchanger, so the server sends mail for your domain to the outside provider instead of keeping it locally.

Be careful with

  • The NS and SOA records: do not change them unless support asks you to.
  • Records for cpanel, webmail, mail, ftp and _domainkey: cPanel creates these and your services depend on them.
  • Reset Zone (in the Actions menu): it removes all your custom records and returns to the defaults.

Common problems

  • Change not visible: wait for the TTL to expire, and check that the domain really uses our nameservers.
  • A CNAME cannot be added: a name cannot have a CNAME and any other record at the same time, and the root domain cannot be a CNAME. Remove the conflicting record or use an A record.
  • Double domain name (for example shop.yourdomain.com.yourdomain.com): when typing a full name, end it with a dot, or type only the subdomain part.
