How to Add SRV Records for Microsoft 365 (Office 365)

Using Microsoft 365 with a domain on FimuroHost DNS? Here's how to add the two SRV records Microsoft 365 uses for Teams sign-in and federation in StackCP.

If you use Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) with a domain whose DNS is managed by FimuroHost, Microsoft may ask you to add some SRV records. These records help Microsoft Teams (and the older Skype for Business service) find the right servers for sign-in and for talking to users in other organisations.

Before you start

  • Your domain should be using FimuroHost nameservers (ns1.stackdns.com and ns2.stackdns.com). If it isn't, add the records at your current DNS provider instead.
  • Check the Domains page in the Microsoft 365 admin center. It lists exactly which records your tenant needs; if the values there differ from the ones below, use Microsoft's values.

The two SRV records

FieldRecord 1Record 2
TypeSRVSRV
Name_sip._tls_sipfederationtls._tcp
Target / Datasipdir.online.lync.comsipfed.online.lync.com
Priority100100
Weight11
Port4435061

Add the records in StackCP

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com, go to Services, select your hosting plan and click Login to Control Panel / StackCP.
  2. In StackCP, open Manage DNS for the domain you want to change.
  3. In the new-record form, choose SRV as the type and fill in the fields for Record 1 from the table above.
  4. Add a second SRV record with the values for Record 2.
  5. Click Update DNS to save. Your records are not live until you do this.
  6. Back in the Microsoft 365 admin center, run the domain check again. It can take up to a few hours before Microsoft sees the new records.

Common problems

  • Microsoft says the record is missing: make sure you entered only _sip._tls in the name field. Some editors add your domain automatically, so typing the full name can result in _sip._tls.yourdomain.com.yourdomain.com.
  • Using Microsoft 365 for email too? Microsoft will also ask for MX, TXT (SPF and verification) and CNAME records. Add those exactly as shown in the admin center, and remember a domain can have only one SPF record.

Tip: if you'd prefer not to edit DNS yourself, open a ticket with the records Microsoft shows you and our team can add them for you.
