Moving to FimuroHost doesn't mean leaving your old emails behind. The Email Migrations tool in StackCP connects to your previous mail server and copies your messages and folders into your new mailbox.
Prefer not to do it yourself? Free website migration is included with FimuroHost Cloud Hosting — open a ticket and ask us to help move your email too.
Before you start
- Create the mailbox first. In StackCP, go to Email Accounts and create each mailbox you want to migrate into.
- Use the same password. The tool uses one password for both the old mailbox and the new FimuroHost mailbox, so set the new mailbox's password to match the old one (you can change it after the migration).
- Find your old mail server name. This is the IMAP hostname of your previous provider, such as
mail.oldhost.com. If you don't know it, check your old host's help pages or ask them. - Don't change your MX records yet if you want as little disruption as possible. Run the migration first, switch DNS, then run it again to catch any late messages.
Supported mailbox types
- Standard IMAP mailboxes from other hosts
- Gmail mailboxes
- Outlook mailboxes
Run the migration
- Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com, go to Services, select your hosting plan and click Login to Control Panel / StackCP.
- In the email section, open Email Migrations.
- Enter the details:
- Hostname – the mail server you're copying from.
- Username – the mailbox you're copying (usually the full email address).
- Password – the mailbox password, which must be the same on the old server and at FimuroHost.
- Click Sync. Large mailboxes can take a while; you can keep working in the meantime.
Good to know
- Emails are copied, not moved. Everything stays on your old server until you delete it.
- You can run the migration for the same mailbox more than once. Later runs only copy new messages, so you won't get duplicates.
- Only one mailbox per hosting package can migrate at a time. Wait for one to finish before starting the next.
If the sync fails
- Double-check the hostname, username and password for typing errors.
- Make sure the passwords on both sides are identical.
- If your old account uses two-step verification (common with Gmail and Outlook), you may need to create an app password there and use that, or enable IMAP access in the old account's settings.
- Still stuck? Send us the hostname and mailbox name (never your password) in a ticket and we'll investigate.
