A domain is registered for a fixed period, usually one year at a time. If it is not renewed before its expiry date, your website and email stop working, and after a while you can lose the domain completely. This guide explains how renewals work at FimuroHost, how to renew early, and how to make sure renewals never slip.

How auto-renew works

  • Auto-renew is on by default for every domain.
  • With auto-renew on, a renewal invoice is currently generated 14 days before the expiry date and emailed to you. Payment reminders follow.
  • The domain is renewed with the registry as soon as the invoice is paid.
  • If the invoice is not paid, the domain is not renewed and expires on its expiry date.
  • If you have account credit (added through Billing → Add Funds), it may be applied to the renewal invoice. Check the invoice to confirm it shows as paid.

In short: auto-renew makes sure the invoice is created on time, but the domain only renews once the invoice is paid.

Renew a domain early

You can renew at any time, not only when the invoice arrives. The extra years are added to the current expiry date, so you do not lose any time by renewing early.

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area.
  2. Go to Domains → Renew Domains. Alternatively, open the domain from Domains → My Domains and click its renew button.
  3. Choose the renewal period for each domain you want to renew (for example 1, 2 or 5 years). Most extensions allow a total registration of up to 10 years from today.
  4. Add to cart and check out.
  5. Pay the invoice with one of the payment methods shown.
  6. After payment, the new expiry date appears on the domain's overview, usually within a few minutes. Public lookups can take a little longer to update.

Turn auto-renew on or off

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area, go to Domains → My Domains, and click the domain (or the Manage button next to it).
  2. On the Overview, use the auto-renew switch (or button) to enable or disable it.

Turn it off only if you really want the domain to expire. With auto-renew off, no renewal invoice is generated.

If an invoice has already been generated

You can pay it at any time from Billing → Invoices. If you want to renew for a longer period than the invoice shows, open a ticket before paying and we can adjust it.

What if I miss the expiry date?

For most generic extensions, there is usually a short period after expiry when you can still renew at the normal price, followed by a redemption period where a restore fee applies. The exact periods vary by extension. See What Happens When a Domain Expires and How to Restore an Expired Domain.

Tips to never lose a domain

  • Renew for several years if you plan to keep the domain long term.
  • Keep your account email up to date so invoices and reminders reach you. Check Email History in the account menu to see what was sent.
  • Use an email address that is not on the domain itself for your account and domain contacts. If the domain expires, email on it stops too.
  • Add credit to your account before expiry if you often travel or payments sometimes fail.
  • Remember that hosting and domain renewals are separate invoices with separate due dates.

Common questions

  • Why is the renewal price different from what I paid the first year? Many extensions have a lower first-year price. Renewal prices are on the pricing page.
  • Can I get a refund for a renewal? Once a renewal is submitted to the registry it usually cannot be reversed. See the refund policy.
  • I paid but the expiry date did not change. Wait an hour and refresh. If it still has not changed, open a ticket with the invoice number.
