A backup is a copy of your website, databases and email that you can use to undo a mistake, recover from a hack or move to another server. cPanel lets you create two kinds of backup yourself: a full backup of the entire account, and partial backups of just your files, a database, or your email forwarders and filters.
Even if your plan includes automatic server backups, keep your own copies on your computer or cloud storage, especially before big changes such as updates, redesigns or plugin installs.
What each backup contains
| Backup | Contains | Can you restore it yourself? |
|---|---|---|
| Full Backup | Everything: files, databases, email accounts and messages, DNS zones, SSL, settings | No. cPanel only allows the server administrator to restore full backups. Open a ticket. |
| Home Directory | All files, including public_html and email messages | Yes |
| MySQL Database | One database, as a compressed .sql.gz file | Yes |
| Email Forwarders / Email Filters | Forwarder or filter settings for a domain | Yes |
Create a full backup
- Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com.
- Go to Services and select your cPanel Hosting plan.
- Click Login to cPanel. cPanel opens in a new tab, already signed in.
- In the Files section, click Backup.
- Under Full Backup, click Download a Full Account Backup.
- Backup Destination: choose Home Directory. (Remote FTP or SCP destinations send it to another server of yours.)
- Choose whether to get an email when it finishes, then click Generate Backup.
- When the email arrives (or after some minutes), return to the Backup page. The file, named like
backup-10.5.2026_14-30-00_username.tar.gz, is listed under Backups Available for Download. Click it to download.
Delete the backup file from your home directory after downloading it. It counts towards your disk space, and a full backup can fail if you are close to your disk limit.
Create partial backups
On the same Backup page, under Partial Backups:
- Click Home Directory to download all your files as a
.tar.gz. - Click a database name under Databases to download it.
- Click a domain under Email Forwarders or Email Filters to download those settings.
The Backup Wizard (also in Files) does the same in a step-by-step way: choose Back Up, then Full Backup or the part you want.
Restore a partial backup
- Go to Files » Backup Wizard and click Restore.
- Choose what to restore: Home Directory, MySQL Databases, or Email Forwarders & Filters.
- Click Choose File, select the matching backup file from your computer and click Upload.
Restoring overwrites the existing files or database with the version in the backup. A database restore replaces the database with the same name. For large home directory backups, the upload may be too big for the browser; in that case upload the archive with FTP and extract it with File Manager instead.
Restoring just a few files
You do not have to restore everything. Open the .tar.gz on your computer (7-Zip on Windows, or double-click on a Mac), find the files you need, and upload only those with File Manager or FTP.
Restoring a full backup
Upload the full backup file to your home directory (or tell us where it is) and open a ticket in the Support department. Our team can check the file and tell you how it can be restored. The same applies to full backups from another cPanel host when you move your website to FimuroHost.
Automatic backups
If your plan includes an automatic backup tool such as JetBackup, you will see it in cPanel. It lets you restore files, databases or email from earlier dates with a few clicks, without uploading anything. If you do not see such a tool, ask support what server-side backups your plan includes, and do not rely on them as your only copy.
Tips
- Follow the 3-2-1 idea: at least three copies, on two different kinds of storage, one away from the server.
- Back up before every major update and keep a few older copies, in case a problem is noticed late.
- Test a restore once in a while, for example by importing a database copy into a spare database.
