Running a WordPress Multisite Network on FimuroHost

WordPress Multisite (officially called a WordPress Network) lets you run many sites from one WordPress installation. FimuroHost Cloud Hosting fully supports it, whether your network uses subdirectories or subdomains.

Before you start

• Take a backup of your site and database.
• Decide between subdirectories (yourdomain.com/shop) and subdomains (shop.yourdomain.com). This is hard to change later.
• Follow the official WordPress guide to enable a network: add define( 'WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true ); to wp-config.php, then use Tools → Network Setup in wp-admin and paste the code it gives you.

Subdomains work automatically

Your hosting automatically maps a wildcard alias (*.yourdomain.com) to your site. That means a new network site such as blog.yourdomain.com or shop.yourdomain.com will load without any extra DNS or hosting setup, as long as your domain uses FimuroHost nameservers.

Using separate domain names

If some network sites should use their own domain (for example anotherbrand.com):

1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area, go to Services, select your hosting plan and click Login to Control Panel / StackCP.
2. Open the Domains section and add the extra domain to the same hosting package.
3. Make sure every domain points to the same document root as your main site, normally public_html. The network will not work if a domain points to a different folder.
4. In WordPress, go to My Sites → Network Admin → Sites, edit the site and set its URL to the new domain.

Getting free SSL for each subdomain

The wildcard mapping is enough for pages to load, but to give each subdomain its own free Let's Encrypt certificate you should add it explicitly:

1. In StackCP, go to Manage Hosting and open Subdomains.
2. Add each subdomain your network uses (for example shop).
3. Open the SSL/TLS section and enable Free SSL so the new names are covered.
4. Once the certificate is active, make sure each site's URL in Network Admin starts with https://.

Tips

• Only network-activate plugins that every site needs; activate the rest per site.
• All sites share one database and one set of resources, so a busy site affects the others.
• WP-CLI supports networks with the --url= option, e.g. wp plugin list --url=shop.yourdomain.com.
