Sometimes a visitor opening a website hosted with FimuroHost sees a brief holding page that says something like "To help us keep this website secure, please wait while we verify you're not a robot", sometimes followed by a quick challenge. This isn't an error and it doesn't mean the site has been hacked. It's the bot filter built into FimuroHost Cloud Hosting.

This article explains what the check is, why it appears, and what you (or your visitors) can do if it keeps coming back.

What the check is

Every FimuroHost Cloud Hosting plan includes network-level anti-DDoS protection. The platform currently has more than 1 Tbps of filtering capacity in front of the web servers. Part of that protection is a system called StackProtect. When a request looks suspicious, StackProtect shows a verification page and a CAPTCHA instead of loading the site straight away. If you've seen the "checking your browser" screens that Cloudflare uses, it works in much the same way.

Why it appears

The check is most likely to appear when:

  • the site, or the platform as a whole, is receiving an unusually large amount of traffic, such as during an attack or a sudden spike;
  • a lot of requests are coming from one IP address in a short time;
  • your IP address has a poor reputation, for example because other devices sharing it have been sending automated traffic.

That last point matters in Bangladesh. Mobile data operators and many office or apartment ISPs put lots of customers behind the same public IP address (CGNAT). If someone else on that shared address has been behaving like a bot, you may be asked to verify even though you did nothing wrong.

How to get through it

  1. Wait a few seconds on the page. Don't keep pressing refresh, because repeated reloads can look like more bot traffic.
  2. If a CAPTCHA appears, complete it.
  3. Make sure your browser allows JavaScript and cookies for the site. The check can't finish without them.

Once you pass, your IP address is trusted for 48 hours. That applies to every site on the FimuroHost Cloud Hosting platform, not only the one you were visiting, so you shouldn't see the check again during that time.

Common problems

  • The check loops or never finishes. Try a private/incognito window, turn off any VPN, proxy or strict privacy extension, and try again. Switching networks (for example from mobile data to Wi-Fi) gives you a different IP address.
  • You see it every day. Your IP address is probably being flagged. You may also be seeing bot checks on other sites that use Cloudflare. Contact the site owner. If you are the site owner, see "StackProtect for Site Owners: False Positives and Exceptions".
  • Automated tools are blocked. Scripts, scrapers and some monitoring tools can't complete a CAPTCHA. Site owners can ask us to look at this. See below.

Can it be turned off?

The protection runs across the whole platform. On request, we can make an exception for an individual website, but we generally advise against it, because StackProtect protects your site and also every other site on the same infrastructure.
