How to Stop Your Emails Going to Junk or Spam

Emails landing in spam? Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for your domain, and tune your junk mail filters in StackCP so wanted messages reach the inbox.

If the emails you send end up in people's junk folders — or wanted messages end up in yours — a few settings usually fix it. This guide covers both directions: making your outgoing mail trusted, and adjusting filtering on incoming mail.

Part 1: help your outgoing email reach the inbox

1. Add an SPF record

SPF tells receiving providers such as Gmail and Outlook which servers are allowed to send mail for your domain. Add a TXT record to your domain with this value:

v=spf1 include:spf.stackmail.com a mx -all

This confirms FimuroHost's mail servers as a genuine sender for your domain. If you also send with another service, combine them into one record rather than adding a second SPF record.

2. Turn on DKIM signing

DKIM signs each message so recipients can check it really came from your domain and wasn't altered.

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com, go to Services, select your hosting plan and click Login to Control Panel / StackCP.
  2. Open DomainKeys and select your domain.
  3. Enter a Selector (any label, such as mail2026) and click Add Signature.
  4. If your domain uses FimuroHost nameservers, the TXT record is published automatically. If your DNS is hosted elsewhere, copy the DNS Name and DNS Value shown and add them as a TXT record at your DNS provider.

3. Add a DMARC policy

Major providers now expect a DMARC record alongside SPF and DKIM. A safe starting point is a TXT record named _dmarc with:

v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:[email protected]

This only monitors and reports; once you're confident everything passes, you can tighten p=none to p=quarantine.

4. Good sending habits

  • Only email people who expect to hear from you, and make it easy to unsubscribe from newsletters.
  • Avoid subject lines in all capitals, lots of exclamation marks and link-only messages.
  • Use a specialist bulk email service for large newsletters rather than your normal mailbox.

Part 2: stop wanted incoming email being marked as junk

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com, go to Services, select your hosting plan and click Login to Control Panel / StackCP.
  2. Open Junk Mail Filters.
  3. Adjust the general filtering level. A lower setting lets more through; a higher one catches more spam but may also catch real messages.
  4. Add trusted senders to the whitelist:
  5. Save your changes. Whitelisted mail skips our spam filtering.

Tip: only whitelist senders you really trust — whitelisted messages are not checked for spam at all.
