An MX (mail exchanger) record is a DNS record that tells other mail servers where to deliver email for your domain. When someone sends a message to [email protected], their mail server looks up your domain's MX records to find out which server should receive it.

How priority works

Every MX record has a priority number. Sending servers try the record with the lowest number first, and only fall back to higher numbers if it doesn't respond. If you only have one MX record, the exact number doesn't matter.

The MX record for FimuroHost email

To receive email in your FimuroHost mailboxes, your domain's MX record should point to:

mx.stackmail.com

If your domain uses FimuroHost nameservers (ns1.stackdns.com and ns2.stackdns.com), this is normally set up for you when the domain is added to your hosting package.

Check or change your MX record

  1. Log in to your FimuroHost client area at https://app.fimurohost.com, go to Services, select your hosting plan and click Login to Control Panel / StackCP.
  2. In StackCP, open Manage DNS for the domain you want to change.
  3. Look for the record with type MX. Its value should be mx.stackmail.com.
  4. If it points somewhere else and you want mail delivered to FimuroHost, edit it (or delete the old MX records and add a new one) and save.

Using nameservers somewhere else? StackCP's DNS editor only takes effect when your domain uses ns1.stackdns.com and ns2.stackdns.com. If your domain points to another DNS provider (for example Cloudflare or your registrar), add the same record there instead.

Common problems

  • Mail still goes to your old provider: DNS changes can take a few hours to spread. Old MX records may be cached for a while.
  • Using Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 for email? Then your MX records must point to that provider, not to mx.stackmail.com. Don't mix MX records from two different providers.
  • Some mail arriving in the wrong place: remove any leftover MX records from your old host so there's only one destination.

Tip: you can check your current MX record with any online "MX lookup" tool.
